Bath Spa

Recently I visited Bath Spa for a long weekend to go and see my friend. It was my first time visiting and I truly didn’t expect it to be the way it is. When I first heard of Bath my mind went straight to imaging it to be this small quaint town home to very few and those it did inhabit to be older, but I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped of the train to be greeted with bustling streets full of a wide range of people. It was full of both the young and old, people from a variety of different backgrounds and cultures, there was a mix of diversity with every street you walked down. Walking to the bus stop with my friend in tow I was absorbing all of the people and things going on around me, from a group of lads on a night out to a couple seemingly going on a date. The place was full of life and warmth.

Later that evening I became the generic broke British student and visited their local Spoons, the atmosphere was loud and boisterous as the average Spoons is, the drinks were cheap, and the company was great. It was a good time and a great example of how wrong I was about Bath; from me thinking it was quite and in no better words boring it turned out to be a great time filled with teens and young adults screaming and shouting. What also added to the atmosphere was the fact that I visited on Halloween weekend so there was a mix of characters everywhere you looked. From devils to angles and Magic Mike to Bart Simpson there was a sight to be seen everywhere.

The following day we went to see the sites of Bath, the streets were filled with people rushing around shopping and gossiping, coffee shops, high street brands, and cute nick knack shops lined the streets inviting all walks of life in through their doors. This wide range of shops made it impossible for anyone to miss out on anything. My personal favourite was the ice cream shop where me and my friend got pistachio ice cream, the best flavour on the planet, and sat outside on a balloon dog style chair. We walked to the Bath Abbey, which was beautiful and a perfect sight to see, from its stunning architecture to the way it drew in everybody that walked past it, it truly is one of the best things to see in Bath.

We visited a book shop, and then decided on where to eat that evening. We chose to spoil ourselves and eat in a restaurant called Dough which is a pizzeria that serves one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had, for context usually I can only eat half a pizza but this one I finished the whole thing and had never felt better. The service was brilliant and the bottle of red wine we shared made the meal even better. Once we had finished dinner we went to a local pub and ordered another bottle. We drank and chatted surrounded by the locals and buzzing atmosphere. The whole evening was fantastic and to finish it off we treated ourselves, again, to yes you guessed it another bottle of red, it's safe to say we had a long lie in the next morning.

Following on from the evening before we spent all day napping and watching movies and it was the perfect way to end a brilliant trip. A trip that I would recommend to anyone and everyone. Bath truly was an amazing place to visit had it offered something for everyone. So, if there is one thing you take away from this whole thing, let it be you must visit Bath at some point because it will be a pleasant surprise.
