Many people say their university years were the best of their lives, however so far I’m not feeling even close to that. So I want to change that.

Since starting in September university has already given us so many opportunities. From making new friends, gaining confidence and independence to academic aspects that allow us to have this blog.
We are still growing and learning as we go through life, university allows us to take a step back, where I personally don’t feel rushed.
5 tips for making the most of uni:
· Join societies
Societies allow you to make friends that share your common interests. You also have a chance to learn more, as societies range from religion to likes and interests. If you cannot find one you like; create your own.
· Attend lectures/speak to lecturers
This seems pretty obvious but it’s quite important. Not only are you paying thousands to attend, but they are also helpful. Lecturers are there to help you, and so they do, they can also help with any personal struggles you may be dealing with.
· Do some sort of reading
Even if you don’t want to do the never-ending readings, try to research the topic beforehand. It’s a good way to prepare yourself by getting a base of knowledge before your lecture.
· Attend uni events
I’m not sure about all universities but most hold events around culture, academics, and fun activities. Don’t be afraid to let loose, it’s supposed to be fun!
· Use student discounts
Being alive costs so much money especially during this time of the cost-of-living crisis. As students we have access to discounts; uni life will be expensive so do try to make use of them.
Although university offers great things, don’t be afraid to make your own opportunities. Our blog is something we created on the side of uni, in hopes to become better, which will come as we learn more throughout our uni lives. We have had amazing advice from our tutors and learning new things within our lectures. Taking opportunities yourself will add many great things to your CV, this includes any extra courses you have taken, building on new skills.
Not only this, but it allows you to explore the job roles you’d like to do, it’s a good way to gain experience. Universities have many more opportunities also, from internships to workshops, you can put yourself in the shoes of your future career.
These tips are just to help guide you in the right direction, everyone’s uni experience is different. Don’t be so worried if you don’t feel like you’re living the proper uni life, I still feel like an outsider, I feel like I always will. But looking for tips is a good first step and getting those tips from people currently experiencing it, is even more connecting.
Don’t put so much pressure on yourself, it’s difficult to adjust for some, but easier for others. If you cannot attend every lecture or do the readings, try your best at home. If you don’t want to join a society or go to events, don’t. Your life balances in your decisions, and is always down to you, not others.
