Setting Yourself Goals

Coming into the new year, everyone has the goal to change something with their new year’s resolutions. New year, new me. Even I have set myself a few goals I’d like to achieve in 2023, but the idea of these goals always seems to go down the drain. But how do we stick to these goals?
First step is picking the things you would like to achieve. This can be small things like changing a habit or massive decisions like a career change. Your goals can always be changed or cancelled; this is just a period of you deciding what you want.
People often set achievements to follow but do not do anything to get to them. Whether you believe in the law of attraction or not, you still have to do things in order to achieve what you want in life.
For example, if you want a specific job but you have no experience or anything that will get you that job, it’s unlikely you will get it- not impossible but unlikely.
I have listed myself small steps I need to work to in order to achieve the things I want. If you want to get in shape or loose a few pounds, maybe plan a workout plan that suits your wants and needs along with a diet plan. There are other options to follow when looking at health and nutrition, so don’t be afraid to look into it or ask for guidance.
Setting goals within university can be quite a big ask, there is already a lot going on. If you want to pass assignments or exams, just focus on that. Obviously, there are other factors within that including time and resources or jobs but as long as you’re tyring it’s all that matters.
The biggest issue we face when following our new year’s resolution is consistency. It’s difficult no doubt. But it is better to create these habits over time for you to stick to it. After a few weeks in of me dieting I always quit thinking I’ve broken the rules, but in reality, you have your own rules. Missing a day of the gym, eating something outside of your diet plan, forgetting a deadline or feeling a bit lazy are all things we do, but don’t quit! Missing one day out of 365 days or a week out of 52 isn’t going to be a big issue, as long as you remember to get back into it.
There are no rules when it comes to creating and following your goals- make your own. Everybody is different and we all have different stories to tell, routines that I have won’t work for everyone just as most don’t work for me. Becoming the best version of yourself takes time and patience, it’s hard to hear as someone with no patience but that’s the fact.
I have seen so many TikTok’s and YouTube videos with motivation to get into the swing of things this year, lots of different versions to target what you are looking for. Maybe get a partner to join you with your goals so you have support and think about joining groups either online or in person. Succeeding is the ultimate goals for most people, but in different ways. The only thing we can do as humans is try and if we fail. It’s just one step closer to succeeding, as long as you persevere.
