A massive hit on TikTok after gaining popularity amongst viewers, It Ends with Us is a romance novel, written by Colleen Hoover. The book, loved by so many is also being adapted into a movie.
Both of us being suckers for romance, they are our weakness’, giving us false hope in what love should be. This is a different take on that, with so many backs and forth (which we love) this had us questioning the ending of the book.
Many chapters had us screaming inside and out, others had us falling in love with some characters. It was written well enough for you to distinguish the characters and how they all differ in personality whilst touching on the characteristics that make them similar.
It puts perspective on domestic abuse, where we read the main characters thoughts as she questions her love for her abusive husband. After witnessing her mother suffer the same treatment by her father, lily makes it known that she will never let a man disrespect her. But we see that change once she meets Ryle. They both fell in love easy and hard. After first being introduced to his character he seemed alright, a flirty guy with no filter, whereas she was quite reserved. Later finding out that he is possessive, abusive and gets jealous really easy. His character changed once we got to know him.
Flashing back to lily’s younger self when she fell in love with Atlas, he is the one we always routed for. He was mentioned in the beginning as the ‘homeless guy’ she lost her virginity to, and that’s all you know him to be. After reading through the flashbacks, you can see he is sweet and cares a lot for lily as we get a glimpse into their past relationship.
Throughout the book its full of situations as to who she ends up with, it is obvious its between Ryle and Atlas from the get-go.
We really liked the book; we are big lovers of romance novels, and this ended exactly how we wanted it to end. We were rooting for Atlas the moment he was introduced in the book, although Ryle wasn’t bad at the start, we were worried in the last chapter she’d end up with Ryle, that would have made us hate the book.
Overall the book was phenomenal, it had us on the edge of our seats the whole time. Our emotions were all over the place from the curiosity of who Atlas was, to the gushing of Ryle and Lily’s relationship in the beginning, the anger and disgust towards Ryle, and the trepidation and worry to see what would happen to Lily, to finally feeling relief and adoration for Lily, Atlas and Emerson.
As for the second book…
The sequel seems unneeded, as the ending of the first book was just what we wanted. Our worry for the second book is that the main couple of Atlas and Lily will be ruined and overdone but were openminded when it comes to reading it and are probably going to give it a go. We are also intending to watch the film when its released, but that is dependent on how well the casting is!
